Nkrumie (9.99) and Reid (10.92) Run World-Leading Times At Jamaica's Boys and Girls Athletics Championships By Todd Grasley of DyeStat A pair of Jamaican youth sprinters put the rest of the world on notice at last weekend's Boys and Girls Athletics Championships (Champs) in Kingston. Bouwahjgie Nkrumie of Kingston College and Alana Reid of Hydel ran world-leading times of 9.99 and 10.92, respectively, in the 100 meters. Nkrumie's sub-10 second clocking was also a new personal best, a Jamaican national U-20 record and Champs meet record. Only Letsile Tebogo of Botswana (9.91 World U20 record at Cali, Colombia in 2022) and Trayvon Bromell of the U.S. (9.97 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2014) have run faster as teenagers. The future of women's sprinting in Jamaica is is also as endless as the island's sunshine. In addition to young stars Briana Williams and Tina Clayton, Reid is now world class as well. The Hydel star's 10.92 time is a Champs record and Jamaican national U-20 record. It also made her the 11th fastest woman in Jamaica history, according to Loop Sport. Reid, the World U20 bronze medalist last summer, moved ahead of Williams (10.97) and Clayton (10.95) on the World U20 all-time list. Only Germans Katrin Krabbe (10.89), Marlies Oelsner (10.88) and Americans Tamari Davis (10.83), and World U-20 record holder Sha'Carri Richardson (10.75) have run faster.
